Crosses and Bricks: a Comparison

As the idea and application of CHOP smolders in the rearview mirror, one has to wonder what the next step for our erstwhile CHAZians will be now in their slow yet destructive march towards whatever goal any young keyboard warrior wants to project on them. Anarchism, social justice, Marxism, socialism, abolition of police, and community sustainability were all foisted upon that dubious ANTIFA endeavor, while each proponent of the previous ideologies used the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone as an online lab to further their own arguments for said ideologies. Now, the millennials are gone but the irony of their presence remains: bricks.
Bricks. CHAZ used bricks to intimidate, destroy, punish, and pillage. But…aren’t bricks principally used for building? Don’t they establish? Don’t they create? Aren’t they used for houses, businesses, shelters? Why, yes, they are used for those things, principally. People don’t make bricks with the hope that some basement-dwelling neo-Marxist hack would deftly toss one into a 7-11 in the name of justice. Do you think the irony is lost on them?
The irony becomes even more profound when the brick is juxtaposed with the Cross. The Cross was once a tool for destruction and now is a tool for building. It was used to torture, humiliate, mock, punish, kill. Now, in the name of Christ, the Cross is used to, well, build. With Christ as the cornerstone, bearers of the cross build what bricks cannot: society, church, family, government, culture. What was once used for evil is now used for good. In fact, the best kind of good: the kingdom of God.
While ANTIFA and their ilk look to destroy the work of others by slinging slabs, one must remember that the real target is not a physical one. It is the kingdom of God. It is His children. It is His word. THESE are the targets. “All who hate me love death” (Proverbs 8:36). Don’t believe that verse? It’s ok, they do. They love death, because all they can do is destroy. Their father is a destroyer too, and those who worship that ancient serpent “become like” him (Psalm 115:8).
It is an ancient battle. Christ vs Satan. The redeemed versus the perverted. The Cross versus the Brick. One day, every brick thrown against Christ and His church will be used to establish it even further. Yes, “the wrath of man shall praise thee” (Psalm 76:10) and “we know that to them that love God all things work together for good” (Romans 8:28).
Without Christ, every brick would be used for destruction; surely, “they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places; thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations, and thou shalt be called the Repairer of the Breach, the Restorer of Paths to dwell in.”
Two groups use the same bricks. Only one uses them for their true purpose. – Luke Saint
