Tim Tebow: Sacked for a Loss
But of course it was just a matter of time. For well known NFL quarterback Tim Tebow, his career as a promoter of righteousness according to the scriptures is apparently over before it even began.
But what were we really expecting? Did we really think that Tim Tebow was capable of challenging the vast array of vicious sports pundits and commentators who attacked him for… For what exactly?
In case you haven’t been following this story, popular Christian icon Tim Tebow was due in April of this year to speak at the First Baptist Church of Dallas, pastored by Robert Jeffress, who apparently believes what the bible says about homosexual activity.
So Tebow has not been attacked for anything he has said, but simply for agreeing to speak at a church where the pastor has said things that are not appreciated by the tolerant sodomite cabal.
The lesson here is that if you are going to be a popular Christian spokesman, you will have to give up either your popularity, your Christianity, or your spokesman status; you simply cannot have all three. For Tebow to cave to the pressure (and cave he did), he may have retained at least some of his popularity, but he has certainly traded in his status as a Christian spokesman.
Why do I say this? On the day that he announced that he will not speak at Pastor Jeffres church, Tebow posted on his Facebook page the following:
“While I was looking forward to sharing a message of hope and Christ’s unconditional love with the faithful members of the historic First Baptist Church of Dallas in April, due to new information that has been brought to my attention, I have decided to cancel my upcoming appearance. I will continue to use the platform God has blessed me with to bring Faith, Hope and Love to all those needing a brighter day. Thank you for all of your love and support. God Bless!”
“Faith, Hope, and Love to all those needing a brighter day.” Wow, I don’t think anyone could argue with that, not even the Marquis de Sade, or even sodomite activist and NAMBLA supporter Harry Hay.
Our modern problem is that we don’t believe the bible. We don’t believe that the scriptures themselves define “Faith, Hope, and Love,” and that any definition contrary to scripture is “Faithless, Hopeless, and Loveless,” no matter how warm and fuzzy that message may appear at first.
And so we drift along, like Eve in the Garden, fooling ourselves into believing that we don’t need the Word of God. Tim Tebow, after all, has done nothing that the vast majority of churches have not already done. They may retain their popularity and they may maintain their platform, but, in far too many cases, they have abandoned the scriptures for their own definitions of “Faith, Hope, and Love.”
Don’t forget: No one spread a message of “Faith, Hope, and Love” like Jesus Christ, and look what they did to Him. In this difficult time, all who would spread His message can in no way expect the welcome wagon. You may be a true Christian spokesman. But don’t expect to be popular.
