In Defense of Open-Air Preaching

The Lancaster Patriot Podcast

Both the biblical narrative and church history are full of examples of the gospel being proclaimed in the “open-air.” Nevertheless, many today claim such an approach is outdated and counterproductive. The guests on this episode of The Lancaster Patriot Podcast beg to differ. Listen in as Chris Hume asks three seasoned open-air preachers about their work and the reason they believe there is still a place to proclaim the gospel of Christ in the open-air.

About the guests:

Bill Adams is the overseer for SFOI.org, an organization with a vision is to “Mobilize the Next Generation of George Whitefields to Saturate the Western World with the Gospel.” Bill has preached at and often led evangelism teams to 24 Super Bowls, 12 NBA & 13 MLB All-Star Celebrations, 16 Final Fours, 2 World Cups, 4 Summer and 3 Winter Olympic Games and 3 Rugby and 3 Cricket World Championships.

Scott Smith heads up Schoolmaster Ministries and has preached on numerous college campuses across the nation. Originally from New England, God sovereignly converted Scott in October, 1979 when he was in Hawaii on his way to Australia.

Ryan Denton is a church planter, open air preacher, and evangelist under Vanguard Presbyterian Church. He is author of seven books, as well as a contributor to DesiringGod, Founders Ministries, Ref21, The Confessional Presbyterian, Heidelblog, and others. He has a Th.M from Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary and lives in Texas with his wife and 3 sons. For more information about Ryan, visit RyanDenton.com.
